Style With Altitude

I never thought that I would be saying this, but the key stylish accessory in the mountains, this season, is the helmet. Though I love icy wind in my hair it is incredibly practical to wear a helmet  and it looks cooler than a powder bowl - as well as keeping your head warm in minus 20C on a chairlift (have you watched the film, Frozen?). The fact that there is more choice in design than the old black or white "lids", and more girly ones these days, also helps.

Only style glitch: helmet hair.

Other style notes for anyone heading for mountain high fashion:

  • Flourescent colours particularly tangerine and lime are sick (sick in a good/cool way)
  • Close fitting hoods on inner layers such as North Face polartec tops are perfect for helmet lining (even though this does create, eek, helmet AND hood hair).
  • Boot envy especially of smug snug super waterproof Sorels (esp from Ugg wearers with damp feet)
  • Ditto envy for those with hotty accessories, glove and boots warmers
  • ABS are the must have bags - almost as expensive as a Mulberry; certainly more desirable in an avalanche

Happy skiing...
